Hello everyone and hope you are well

It seems like schools have been sending out emails and letters the last few days regarding the 1st of June return for all pupils of nursery, reception, year 1 and year 6.
I received mine today from the headteacher and I was happy to read that they won’t be pressurising anyone to send their children in at this time.

I hope this is the case for everybody who has received information regarding the wider reopening of schools.

If anyone has heard otherwise from their school maybe they could leave a comment under the update and I can try and help.

I also noticed today that the government guidance has changed slightly and now includes this section below, whereas before it didn’t mention whether it was compulsory.
I hope that our petition and the media pressure the Department of Education received as a result had some part in this change of wording, making it somewhat clearer for parents to understand their rights.

If my child is eligible, is it compulsory for them to attend school?
We strongly encourage children and young people in the eligible year groups and priority groups (such as children of critical workers) to attend, as requested by their school or college, unless they are self-isolating or there are other reasons for absence (such as shielding due to health conditions).

You should notify your child’s school or college as normal if your child is unable to attend so that staff are aware and can discuss with you.

Parents will not be fined for non-attendance at this time

Thank you again to everyone for signing and sharing this petition and the lovely supportive comments many of you have left for me!

It feels like we are close to victory with what we set out to achieve, but instead of closing the petition I think I will leave it active for the next while incase anything changes in the meantime and people need the support.
