The Issue

Ever since I was young, my dad and I have shared a special bond over the radio. He works for NPR and WWNO, and through him, I've come to appreciate the magic of radio broadcasting. It's not just background noise in our home; it's our daily companion, a voice that brings us stories from all parts of the world. Listening to Bob Pavlovich, a friend of my dad’s at WWNO, and other remarkable broadcasters, fills our home with knowledge, culture, and diverse opinions. This enriches our lives and keeps our community connected.

Unfortunately, due to recent funding cuts, stations like NPR, WWNO, the Boston Globe, the Washington Post, and many others are struggling. These institutions play a critical role in providing quality, unbiased information. The funding cuts have forced them to rely heavily on donations to continue operating freely, which poses a risk to accessibility for all listeners. Ensuring access to free radio and credible journalism is vital for our democracy and informs our society.

Public radio stations are not only platforms for news but cultivators of community and education, often providing insightful content unavailable elsewhere. Without adequate funding, these voices could be lost, impacting not only dedicated listeners like my dad and me but potentially millions of others who depend on the radio for daily information.

I urge the government to reconsider and restore funding to these stations so they can continue to operate and provide their invaluable service to the public. Without this support, we might lose an essential component of our harmonious community and informed citizenship.

Please sign this petition to help ensure these stations continue to be the accessible and informative resources we need them to be. Together, we can ensure that everyone, regardless of their financial situation, has access to high-quality journalism and music. Your signature can make a difference. Think of it this way, 1 signature could save 1 radio station. Imagine if we had like, for example, 1 million signatures, we could save every radio station that ever existed. So, if you can please sign this petition. Your voice is important.
