Hello All:
A year and half ago I started this petition…  I had no idea that I would unleash millions of people’s voices. Your voices. During this pandemic our government realized something we all have known for awhile, the power of cash. So now I am in it, I can’t turn my back on all 3 million of you who stood up and said, “I need help or I know others who need help.” For me, that means working to make sure the monthly checks from the Child Tax Credit do not disappear after December 15th. And so….I have started a petition in partnership with the amazing Stephanie Land, the author of MAID (now a Netflix series) to urge our government to continue monthly checks.  Read this new petition, sign it and share it. 

I know the monthly Child Tax Credit checks are not the answer for all who have signed this petition, which is why I have decided to start a new one. If you believe they are a victory, a transformation of how we care for each other please sign and share this new petition. 

It’s being reported that food insecurity has dropped 24% because of the Child Tax Credit - we can’t walk backwards from here. The monthly checks provides an average income boost of 35% for the poorest 20% of households with children!  But even though families of about 61 million children could see their monthly Child Tax Credit payments end after next week the bill has not been passed! 

As a business owner I see these checks as creating a partnership between small businesses, our government and families. Unlike larger companies and corporations, small businesses don’t have the means to offer childcare which often prevents many people from working outside of school hours. These monthly checks give our staff additional cash and flexibility beyond their paychecks to better afford necessities like daycare and they have also given our community dignity and choice on where they choose to spend their dollars.

We leave so many people behind and fuel the inequalities that persist generation after generation when in reality small changes make huge changes.  We ask people to step up and plea for help over and over. That’s not right and it is not working. Let’s change that and give our families a safety net they can depend on: direct cash monthly – extend the monthly child tax credit checks by passing the Build Back Better act. Sign this petition so we can show the Senate that the voices of real people need them to act now and pass the bill!

***The IRS has told some lawmakers the bill needs to pass by December 28th for payments to continue smoothly heading into January. Come on let's do this!
