For businesses like mine to survive, people in our country must have confidence that they can spend money. Multiple recent proposals in Congress would expand the Child Tax Credit (CTC), a huge step forward by giving families up to $250-$300 recurring monthly checks for each child for a year. Our elected officials need to hear that this matters to our small business owners. Sign this letter to your Congressperson and tell them that the CTC would make a difference for you.

This idea isn’t perfect, but it incorporates a lot of what we have been fighting for the last year. If the CTC expansion passes, it means more money in the hands of families in our communities. It means more spending power in our businesses. Each month, families with children would feel the real support of money in their bank accounts. Some estimates say half of all American families would get a monthly check.

Reoccurring has always been the key word in this petition. The power to survive needs to be in our hands, not at the mercy of a big ol’ fight in Congress each time essential aid runs out. 

While the Child Tax Credit doesn’t reach everyone, and this doesn’t replace what we are asking for — an ongoing emergency money monthly check — it is an important piece in the puzzle of living through this economic crisis.
