President-Elect Biden last night outlined a new COVID relief plan to swiftly support our economy in a meaningful way. It is a step in the right direction, but it is still just another one-time check.
Earlier this week you responded to my email and shared your stories of what you spent your $600 check on. Can you help share this video on Twitter or Facebook so Congress understands the limits of one-time checks?
We know that for so many people, a $600 check – or even another $1,400 as Biden proposed last night, to bring the total up to $2,000 – simply does not meet basic needs. This crisis has been relentless for 11 months, and we need support that meets the level of the problem. Let’s show Congress how important cash is to our families, what the one-time checks actually cover, and why ongoing checks are needed.
Your voices in this video clearly explain how quickly a check that took nine months to obtain is spent. There is momentum for another one-time check – but it needs to be stronger for ongoing checks. Let’s make sure this new round of checks passes, and then Congress also moves forward in supporting recurring checks.
Thank you again. Many people have asked me how I am able to write these updates and if I really do write them myself. Yes, I really do! And I have had incredible support from Change.org and the Economic Security Project through the last 10 months. These organizations have so much commitment and heart – thank you both,
Stephanie
