Jennifer Bifulco started this petition to Governor Gina M. Raimondo and

Rhode Island was the first state to ban using bullhooks to train and guide elephants, however, the law only applies to traveling shows and circuses. Bullhooks are rods with sharp metal tips used to guide and manage captive elephants. Animal experts and advocates (and studies) show that bullhooks allow elephants to follow orders due to pain and fear. We need the RI legislation to add zoos to this law so we can protect the elephants at Roger Williams Park Zoo, where this practice is currently being used. Roger Williams Park Zoo was recently voted amongst the worst zoos for the treatment of elephants by the group “In Defense of Animals.” There are gentle tools that can be used to guide and train elephants safely and banning bullhooks will allow this to happen. We can help take care of our elephants and make a difference. Please consider signing this petition to make this change for these beloved animals. Let’s not visit this zoo until this cruelty ends!!!
