Gettysburg College typically provides 5 days of no instruction or on-campus work during a mid-semester spring break.  Such break is posted in the academic calendar months before the start of the spring semester.  This semester, amid the COVID-19 pandemic, Gettysburg College is only providing 2 wellness days of no instruction that students are notified of either the day of or less than 24 hours in advance.  This discrepancy in days of no instruction, coupled with the pandemic and little to no advance notice of such days occurring, highlights an obvious disregard for both the on-campus and remote student body's mental health and academic success.

We petition that the Gettysburg College Administration remedy such discrepancy by providing a third wellness day of no instruction.  The third wellness day shall be had after the second wellness day and prior to the final week of classes.  The student body shall be notified of the third wellness day at least 24 hours in advance.  We send this petition with the expectation that the Gettysburg College Administration will recognize the importance of its students' mental health and how it promotes the academic success and prestige of the institution.
