Get To The Root! The Statue of Limitations Law for child sexual abuse needs to be changed!

The Issue

There are so many people that have been a victim of sexual abuse as a child, usually it's by someone very close to them. Most of the time, this abuse goes unreported due to being scared, threatened, embarrassed, feeling that no one will believe you and the list goes on as to why it is hard or sometimes feels impossible for victims to come forward with the sexual abuse they've endured as a child. Often times victim's blame themselves and/or brainwashed. This sexual abuse that so many of us have experienced, (is a known fact) to/could cause long term affects such as mental illnesses, depression, anxiety, disassociation disorder, ptsd, suicidal, low self-esteem, revictimizing and the list goes on. Majority of victims suffer in silence throughout their lives, and endure even more abuse because they may feel they deserve it, because of what was done to them as a small child with no voice or confidence to speak up against someone who they looked up to, respected, trusted to teach them and protect them... A predator that preys on children 9 times out of 10 is a victim themselves. This is a problem. This is a cycle and a huge contributor to a lot of sex crimes that are happening today. We need to "Get to The Root" of this issue.

The Statute of Limitations Law for Childhood Sexual Abuse has a time frame for victims to report or be able to file charges against their abuser. If a victim reaches the deadline without reporting the abuse they endured, they are no longer able to press charges on their abuser. There should not be a time limit to press charges against someone who has caused this type of harm to a child no matter how long ago it was. Victims have to deal with this trauma for the rest of their lives and learn how to cope with it and some never get the strength or courage to speak up about what happened to them. Someone who commits this abuse is more than likely repeating this over the years and ruining others as they go through life. This is just a viscous cycle that keeps repeating, because as I stated before, the child molester 9 times out of 10 was a victim his/herself. They probably never spoke up or did not have the courage to... didn't receive the help they needed. This will continue to happen as long as there is a time frame in which you can held accountable.
