Get Ryan Reynolds to adapt C.A. Klug's Canadian fantasy/adventure book series to screen
The Issue
Kids want a movie or a TV series, and I have proof! My name is C.A. Klug and I'm a Canadian independent author of children's novels. Across multiple countries, kids have been reading and loving my books, and one of the most common questions I get when I do school visits is: "WHEN IS IT GOING TO BE A MOVIE??" But as usual, I'm getting ahead of myself. The books in question are THE SOUGHT SIX series of books written by yours truly. Think like, if the Goonies found themselves in Narnia... and were Canadian. Every character is inspired by a Canadian, as a matter of fact, and when I tell kids Ryan Reynolds is one of them, they all say: "Wait, he has a production studio... HE HAS TO MAKE IT A MOVIE!" Hence, this petition.
Now, you'll notice I said 'independent author' before. That means that my reach is limited. I do my best, but unfortunately my lack of industry connections/famous name is proving to be a real shortcoming. That said, everywhere my books do go, they gain fans. Is it therefore out of the realm of possibility to assume that if I DID have industry connections, I'd be flying high by now? Not to be too overzealous, but I don't think it's out of that realm at all. THE SOUGHT SIX books are full of epic fantasy, high-stakes adventure, perilous action, and friendship goals. Everything kids have been telling me for years that they want in a book. (By day, I'm a librarian. Trust me, I know!) Book 1 is available and doing well, and the highly-anticipated Book 2 is coming June 7th. Not only do I get letters from kids telling me how much they loved the book and can't wait for the rest of them, but I get messages from parents and teachers thanking me for writing a book that their kids don't get bored of in ten pages, and for giving them a story that is purely FUN. A fantasy world full of adventures that they can escape into for a while and be accepted no matter who they are.
I fancy myself an underdog in this situation, and I know there are countless people out there who can relate. If I can make this movie/series happen for my readers (to say nothing of myself), not only will kids everywhere get to fall in love with a whole new franchise, but I want to give hope to ALL the underdogs out there. Just because we don't have industry connections, doesn't mean we aren't worth listening to. Doesn't mean we don't have a product that audiences are consistently begging to be advanced (and they are). Ryan Reynolds loves an underdog story - I can point out the episode of Welcome to Wrexham where he said exactly that - but that's not the only reason I'm looking at him specifically. It's not even just because he's got his production studio, Maximum Effort. It's because he's Canadian and loves Canada (same as me, same as the books), he inspires a character, as I said before, he's got kids of his own and surely knows the importance of giving kids stories to have fun with, and he's one hell of a businessman. Seriously, we've all seen his ads. He can market anything.
Maybe if all this works out, I can finally pay my parents back for letting me live at home right now - where are all my fellow broke millennials at? I can only hope my ideal cast (Ryan Reynolds, Rachel McAdams, AJ Cook, Catherine O'Hara, etc...) doesn't age out before this happens! ;)
