I am one of the athletes who has experienced the unsettling and inappropriate behavior of our high school swim team coach at Reynolds. On multiple occasions, I have been subjected to unwanted touches and have been uncomfortable with the unprofessional jokes he makes during practice. These experiences have not only affected me but have also impacted my teammates, creating an environment where we feel uneasy and less focused on our sport.

High school is a crucial time for young athletes, where they should feel supported, respected, and safe while pursuing their goals. Unfortunately, under this coach's guidance, that environment has been compromised. Inappropriate behavior from a person of authority is not only unprofessional but also damaging to the morale and mental well-being of students.

Statistics show that inappropriate conduct in schools can lead to decreased student performance and increased anxiety levels, affecting the overall school experience. According to a study by the National Education Association, students who feel unsafe or uncomfortable in their school environment are less likely to participate and excel in extracurricular activities.

The solution is clear and actionable: we must demand the immediate dismissal of this coach from his position in order to protect and foster a safe and respectful environment for all student-athletes. It's imperative that Reynolds High School leadership takes swift and decisive action to prevent further misconduct and to demonstrate a commitment to student safety and professional conduct in athletics.
