The Issue

On July 3rd, 2025, the footballing world (and beyond) were shocked at the tragic death of Diogo Jota and Andre Silva in a car crash in Spain. Tributes have since flowed from players and fans. In a similar vein, Liverpool Football Club has announced that the '20' shirt number that Jota wore while playing for Liverpool is now retired, and that they will be collecting the physical tribute laid in memoriam by fans and players to create a statue of Jota. However, I feel this is not enough.

Two or three weeks ago, Liverpool FC (and others) intervened to take down a false charity in Jota's name; false being in the sense that the charity had no links to Liverpool or the brothers' family. It leads me to wonder why there hasn't been a similar, yet legit, charity started by Liverpool FC to support the surviving members of the Silva family.

It has been two months and a half since the tragedy occurred, yet there is no mention from Liverpool FC over such a foundation. Sign now to stress the importance of this foundation, and to honor the legacy of two human beings who brought joy and fond memories to countless people and places!!!
