Hello wonderful people! Today, our sister ‘Free Periods’ petition has organised a kick ass mass protest to end period poverty in the UK. Period!!! Join them at 5pm in Richmond Terrace, SW1A to lobby government into providing vital period products to schoolgirls on free school meals, so that the 10% of schoolgirls who currently miss school because they do not have access to sanitary pads no longer have to sacrifice their education. This change can happen, but only with your help this afternoon! This is no ordinary protest. Oh no. It has been backed by politicians, celebrities and feminist organisations across the globe. Speakers at the protest include supermodel Adwoa Aboah, Jess Phillips MP, Daisy Lowe, Paula Sherriff MP and amazing petition starter Amika George. It’s been backed by many organisations and publications including Gurls Talk, The Guardian and Glamour Magazine. Other celebrities, including Emily Ratajkowski, have also recently taken up the issue by arguing that we need to “talk about it. Period!” and end the period taboo. But celebs and high profile speakers don’t make a protest. Oh no. You do! The more people there the more impactful the protest. The Scottish Government have recently introduced a scheme that aims to end period poverty by providing period products to vulnerable girls and women. If Scotland can do it, so can the rest of the UK. Amika George believes that today at 5pm “we can all change the political agenda together” and ensure that in 2018 no girl sacrifices her education because of her period. Period! Have a wonderful Christmas! Laura :)
