Hello all 320,088 of you! Something amazing has happened across the pond at Brown University. Many American schools and education institutions have started to offer free menstrual products in women's bathrooms. Yep. 100% free! Not only does this save students from the financial burden of menstruation but it also acts as a pretty effective protest against the sexism inherent in tax systems and more specifically, in tampon tax. But Brown University has gone a step further. Student body president, Viet Nguyen, argued that “there’s been a lot of conversation about why pads and tampons are a necessity, not a luxury, but not a lot of action”. So, he decided to make menstrual products free. On campus. In ALL bathrooms-women's, men's, and gender-neutral. Amazing! Here’s why that decision is so important (quoted from the article below): ‘It’d be a good societal practice to remove the stigma from the idea that tampons exist and are somehow “gross” or “mysterious” or that it would be weird for people to need them. They should seem no more “gross” to anyone than seeing a package of toilet paper. By putting them in every bathroom on campus, Brown University is taking an important step towards normalizing the fact that some people have periods.’ Brown, we salute you! Laura :) #EndTamponTax
