EU to consider British plea to scrap 'sexist' tampon tax

Last night David Gauke, the Treasury minister, quelled a rebellion in Tory ranks by promising to raise the 'tampon tax' with the Commission. It follows a cross-party alliance in Parliament between largely female campaigners - among them Labour's Paula Sherriff and the Greens' Caroline Lucas - and veteran Tory eurosceptics including Sir Bill Cash.
