Given a staggering 97% of wildflower meadows have been eradicated in less than a century it is almost impossible to exaggerate how crucial grassy road verges are. In many counties, verges are the last remaining fragments of grassland where wild flowers and the wildlife they support can still survive and prosper.

Thankfully, grassroots pressure is encouraging more and more councils to manage these roadside mini-meadows better for nature, as demonstrated by today's exciting breaking news: freedom of information data gathered by Press Association reveals that seven in 10 English councils are using mowing or management regimes alongside roads in their area to boost wildflowers and wildlife

NOW YOUR HELP IS NEEDED to convince the remaining 30% to make changes to boost biodiversity on their verges too. PLEASE TAKE A FEW MOMENTS TO SIGN AND SHARE THIS PLANTLIFE PETITION to show how much you care > https://plantlife.love-wildflowers.org.uk/roadvergecampaign
