Today (4 July) marks #NationalMeadowsDay and although many of you will not be able to visit a meadow in person this year it still promises to be an enormously uplifting and enriching celebration of our last remaining meadows. The value and vulnerability of meadows must be better recognised and Plantlife is launching a bumper bonanza of fresh meadows films captured in the past few days at beautiful meadows from Dorset to north Wales to help raise spirits and awareness. Please keep an eye on Plantlife’s FacebookTwitter, and Instagram channels throughout the day and help celebrate these special places.

The scale of meadows loss is breath-taking: Over 97% - that's 7.5 million acres - of the UK's meadows and flower-rich grasslands have been lost since the 1930s. When you think that one acre of meadow can be home to nine million flowers on a single day in summer, that’s a lot of flowers and nectar missing from the countryside!

  • Given the shocking scale of the loss it is essential that we achieve stronger protection and a brighter future for our precious wild flower meadows. PLEASE CONTINUE TO SIGN AND SHARE THE PETITION AS WIDELY AS YOU'RE ABLE TO SHOW JUST HOW MUCH YOU CARE! PASSING HALF A MILLION SIGNATORIES WOULD SEND SUCH A STRONG MESSAGE!

You can support Plantlife's crucial work to create new networks of connected meadows by making a donation here.
