sort history of the Powerhouse 

The powerhouse built in 1900 it was the main power station for wolverton works and took over the job of the 40 boilers. The print works use also heated and powered by the powerhouse. The works become the first ever in the UK to be electrically operated The power house stayed as the main source of electric and heat for the the works and print works until the mid 1960s when the Northants electric company took over supplying the power to both factories. The boiler house then just became the main source of heat for the workshops and steam for the smithy shop steam hammers etc. In 1992 the chimney smoked its last and the boilers where removed in 1993. In 1994 a year before BR sold off the works the 150 ft high chimney was demolished brick by brick. The section of the powerhouse which housing the switch board etc is still in operation and the cellar still has all it tiling and looks like it did when built in 1900
