Gaza: Save the lives of Mr and Mrs El-Bayouni who are stranded in a war zone! Act now!

The Issue

Dr. Mohammed El-Basyouni (75) and his wife Ayla El-Basyouni (69) live in Wilhelmshaven, Germany. Mr. El-Basyouni is a retired trauma surgeon and in this capacity has saved the lives of dozens of people. He and his wife are German citizens.

They were visiting their original Palestinian homeland when the war began. Now they are in a life-threatening situation in the middle of Gaza and German authorities are doing little to nothing to save their lives!

Let's change this together!

We demand:

  • German authorities and the Foreign Ministry must do everything humanly possible to save Mr. and Mrs. El-Basyouni! They must coordinate with the Red Cross to have the family transported out of their dangerous situation to the Egyptian border and evacuate them to Germany from there!
  • To members of the press: Report on this case and do contact  the relevant German and US authorities!
  • To everyone reading this: Sign the petition! Spread it in chat groups and on social media! Contact the responsible authorities via phone and email and demand clarification!

Their son Loay El-Basyouni is a US citizen and scientific engineer with NASA and lives in Los Angeles. He has been a member of the team that sent the Perseverance to Mars in March 2020 and is a chief engineer for the design team of the Ingenuity robotic helicopter. He writes on X:

“My parents are in Gaza, and it's heart-wrenching. They hold German citizenship, but that doesn't change the fact that they're trapped with no access to water, power, or food. They were forced to leave Beit Hanoun due to the threat of bombs, and now they're in Gaza City, facing another evacuation order. Sadly, they have nowhere to go, and it's impossible for them to even walk to safety. In the face of these challenges, my parents have made the difficult decision to stay. They believe that dying with honor in their home is better than risking their lives on the perilous roads. In my dad's old surgery clinic, there are 70 other refugees from the nearby area. Tragically, 10 of them left after receiving the evacuation order and were hit by Israeli bombing . It's a dire situation."

A few weeks ago, the vast majority of civilians with foreign passports were evacuated by their respective governments. Not so the El-Basyouni couple. One family member reports:

"We have been in constant contact with the German representation in Ramallah. We always immediately complied with the requests for new papers, ID cards, etc. In the end, however, we were constantly sent around in circles to no purpose. We are desperate and feel abandoned by the relevant authorities and the German government. Are we second-class citizens?"

The window-of-opportunity to rescue the El-Basyounis is shrinking by the hour. All people in Gaza deserve to be saved - let's join forces to get at least this family out of the hell that Gaza has been turned into!

Act now!
