Please sign AB 1993 into law so IHSS family caregivers can access unemployment insurance!
The Issue
If you are employed with In Home Supportive Services a California State ran program and you are the caregiver for your child, spouse, or parent you are not eligible to receive any unemployment benefits. However, all other employees are entitled up to 26 weeks.
I lost my son after he battled with a terminal heart condition for over 9 1/2 years and was denied UI benefits under the IHSS program because he was my child . I have been determined to change this for almost 4 years so that no one would ever experience the devastion I did when Caleb left. I went from a job with income to jobless with no income in one crushing moment.
We are currently running state (and eventually federal legislation) to change this. Legislation has been introduce in Sacramento, California. The bill number is AB1993. Once this legislation is passed legislators in Washington, DC will compose a federal bill and make this law nation wide.
Please help me by signing this petition so we can show our support and make sure that no other person has to be doubly devastated by losing your loved one and your livelihood.
