Fight for insurance funding for choice of therapies for autistic children!

Fight for insurance funding for choice of therapies for autistic children!

The Issue

California Governor Gavin Newsom must sign SB 562! Autistic children and teens deserve insurance funding for whichever evidence-based therapy method their doctors prescribe for THEM. "Cookie cutter" medicine is not effective.

Families are regularly denied insurance coverage for physician-prescribed, evidence-based behavioral health treatment due to the widespread myth that there is only ONE scientifically proven approach, ABA (Applied Behavioral Analysis). Patients deserve to receive whichever of the evidence-based therapies their doctors believe would be most effective for their patient, including *developmental, relationship-based approaches, such as DIR/Floortime. Autistic people  have very diverse needs; “one size fits all” method doesn’t work for every patient... Governor Newsom, please sign SB 562 to ensure that families and doctors will have choices!

*Developmental approaches embrace the individual differences of neurodiverse people, celebrate their strengths, offer warmly attuned relationships, and develop their passions. Developmental approaches lead to creative spontaneity, joyful connections with others, self-determination, and purposeful lives!
