Petition update

Victory at last! Ghazipur Clean-Up Begins

Parul Mathur
Delhi, India

Oct 4, 2019 — We
are so excited that it is hard to type. Our petition has become a victory, with what we asked and campaigned for being achieved!

We are delighted to share that Mr. Gautam Gambhir, the Member of Parliament from East Delhi on Thursday 3rd October inaugurated a Ballistic Separator as a part of the pilot project to reduce the height of Ghazipur landfill and #CleanTheMess. His office directly
communicated this development to us and we saw the announcement on Twitter as well.

This
initiative is a key part of biomining, the method that was used to green the landfill in Indore. This inauguration happened exactly a month after Mr. Gambhir met Mr. Asheesh Singh, IAS (Indore Municipal Commissioner), who was credited with the Indore success.

Involving
Mr. Asheesh Singh and taking his inputs to find solutions to the Ghazipur landfill issue is exactly what we have been campaigning for since January. Today we thank all of you for signing and sharing our petition, for tweeting to Mr. Gambhir when we asked you
to. This campaign’s success as much yours as it is ours. We really could not have done it without you. We also want to thank the media for covering and doing their bit to spread awareness.

Mr.
Gambhir has said, "Though a pilot project, it is a historical step. I have earlier said that we have to find a solution to Ghazipur landfill. It is Asia's biggest landfill. It will take time to get reduced. The machine will work on the old garbage so that the
height of the landfill gets reduced. For fresh garbage, we will do segregation and solid
waste management."

We would love to hear your
thoughts on this victory. Please leave a comment!

Thank you,
Parul and Seema.
