The signatures just keep on coming 💪🏻

Two weeks in and we have over 3.6k signatures. 

Still, people are telling me this is the first they’ve heard of the proposal and are suitably shocked, disappointed and outraged in equal measure. One woman works in the next road and hadn’t even heard about it.

It’s the level of destruction that is incomprehensible - demolishing a memorial garden to create a barren, soulless arena that nobody asked for. Sefton Council are authorising splashing millions of tax payers money without proper consultation with the people of Southport.

In Sefton’s own press release they could only muster ‘one third of people surveyed thought it would be safer and more welcoming’ , meaning 67% didn’t. They also proclaimed that their ‘in-depth’ consultation consisted of 300 locals and a mail shot of 1200. Fifteen hundred in a town of 100K residents.

The ‘hundreds of schoolchildren’ who gave it their nod of approval are just that; children. Unqualified to suggest we rip up the town centre - especially as the Town Planner isn’t allowed a voice. 

At our Town Hall meeting with the Project Manager and the Executive Director Regeneration, Economy and Assets we said this project would cause outrage and we were right. 

We ask you to look at their track record: Southport Pier - four years and counting, the £73m theatre complex, two years since demolition and not a brick has been laid, Chapel Street pedestrianisation, a filthy, scruffy mess … I could go on. 

Keep passing this petition on,  my posts on many of the Facebook pages are still ‘pending’ so we need to unite and spread the word.
