Friends, my petition asking Gap Inc. to stop selling fur now has well over 200,000 signatures and hundreds are added every day. I remain in touch with a representative from the corporate office, and I am assured that Gap Inc. executives continue to discuss this campaign. In my recent communications with the Gap Inc. representative, I was told that the fur sold in Intermix stores comes from “humane fur farms". However, the majority of fur sold at Intermix comes from China, a country with no animal cruelty laws. Numerous investigations of Chinese fur farms have revealed unimaginably barbaric treatment of animals. While Gap euphemistically uses the phrase "humane fur", the term is itself a logical contradiction. There is simply no such thing as humane fur. Not surprisingly, my request for proof that Gap Inc. sources fur from humane farms has been ignored. In my most recent email, I reminded Gap Inc. that I am anxiously awaiting additional information regarding the practices endorsed by this corporation. I will continue to push these questions and will not accept vague responses in which blame is placed on the independent labels that Intermix carries. Gap Inc. needs to own up to the practices it endorses and take responsibility. Upon agreement to remove fur from all Piperlime stores (as a response to my previous campaign: https://www.change.org/p/help-rabbits-and-foxes-slaughtered-for-fur-at-piperlime-stores), Gap Inc. stated “Piperlime will no longer sell real fur products, whether they are made by our company or not. This is an expansion beyond our existing policy of prohibiting real fur in our branded products.” Because Gap Inc. has changed their policies regarding items manufactured both directly and indirectly, they have shown that they have the capacity to make swift, meaningful, and widespread change in policy. I pledge to do everything in my power to convince Gap Inc. to join the growing number of fur-free retailers. In addition to continued communications with Gap representatives, I will contact members of the Gap Inc.’s Board of Directors as my next step. In the meantime, we need to keep up the good work. Please continue to help me spread the word about this campaign and to remind shoppers to stay away from all Gap Inc. owned stores (Gap, Athleta, Old Navy, Banana Republic, Piperlime, and Intermix). We need to continue to use social media to bring negative attention to this corporation that continues to slaughter animals for profit. To continue to support my campaign: Please continue to place pressure on Gap Inc. by sharing the petition with friends on Facebook and Twitter. It is imperative that we gather as many signatures of possible to show Gap Inc. how many customers are being lost. 1) Click here to send them a message on Twitter http://ctt.ec/1f4f9 2) Click here to post to their Facebook account: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Gap-Inc/143767352335568 (This account doesn't allow us to post directly on their public wall, so please send your comment as a reply to something that they have posted already). Thank you from the bottom of my heart! I am grateful beyond words for your time and effort. -Sarah
