Gannon misleads the public again! 

• This question is on a Gannon brochure: "Why does Gannon University want a location on the bayfront?" 
  Their answer: "Gannon has a research vessel - the Environaut - docked on the waterfront. A laboratory that is proximate to it would aid researchers and their projects , who currently must transport everything to campus more than a half-mile away. "

This NONSENSE leads people to believe "NePTWNE is water research. It needs access to a waterfront location!

JUST THE FACTS

• Gannon does not NEED a research lab on the water!
• They just really WANT it because it is a great selling point to attract students to their campus.
• There are many research labs that are NOT ON THE WATERFRONT including the Research lab at the Tom Ridge Center, at Penn State Behrend, at Mercyhurst and the NOAA Great Lakes Environmental Research Lab in Ann Arbor Michigan! I have worked with researchers at all of them! They have been doing important Great Lakes Research successfully for years!
• These labs all transport water samples much further away than a half-mile!
• A good research program collects samples from tributaries,wetlands and coastal regions as well as locations in the lakes far from their lab and must transport them from miles away.

So Gannon's argument DOES NOT HOLD WATER! What they need is a slip for their boat and they already have one!

• Gannon could easily be using their own lab instead of ruining the Blasco Library, moving important library programs to less desirable locations and wasting money to build a new lab!
