Some of you may not have heard so here is what happened at the Gainesville City Commission meeting. The meeting lasted till 11 pm and WE STOPPED A Drive-through! Yaay that is cause for celebration! We made used our voices and we made a difference!
However, they did vote to rezone to PUD and retail, which is disappointing. The developer was tasked to go back to the drawing board and do some redesigning.
We did make it clear that more of us wanted to be included in the developer's future conversations with neighbors, because this time, they stopped notifying us when affected parties disagreed with the drive-thru plan.
Thank you for your tremendous response and support. About 20 of you showed up to carry signs. 10-15 of us spoke during public comment. Marsha Mott, Harry Shaw and Ron Randles gave well prepared and clear presentations which were unfortunately cut short at the last minute by the Mayor.
Many thanks to all of you who have helped by sending notes, distributing fliers, put signs in your yards, signed the petition, showed up and/or spoke! I hope some watched it on TV. We have made great progress, but we still have a ways to go. They talked about a several story building with housing above and retail below. . . .or, slim chance, a city park, since one of Gainesville's goals is said to be a park within 10 minutes of everyone's home. Also was talk of saving the heritage trees. We will see we will keep you posted.
