The Issue
Back in Mach; it was learned that Konami and Hideo Kojima were having a dispute when his production company disbanded and its name was removed from all promotional material for Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.This was followed by the cancellation of the highly anticipated horror game, Silent Hills.
According to Konami, this is all part of a company restructuring as they try to focus on the development of mobile games. Meanwhile, Kojima has been very civil by not saying anything about Konami while assuring fans that they are making a great game.
Then in what could be seen a childish move, Konami removed the headline "A Hidoe Kojima game" from the cover of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. Obviously they are trying to erase his influence while taking away his credit.
While fans and the media have been open about how they feel about Konami, the gaming industry has remained silent for the most part. No one has really taken a strong stance against this disrespectful treatment of a respected icon.
That changed when Nvidia took a stand and showed their support of Hideo Kojima. The company described Metal Gear Solid V as a game by Kojima Productions when promoting the GeForce GTX bundle. This was major victory by Kojima along with a great humiliation to Konami.
Nividia may have gotten the ball rolling but others in the industry along with retailers need to take a stand and show their support for Hideo Kojima. It needs to be shown that disrespecting an accomplished icon should not be tolerated while such disputes need to be settled like adult.
As a loyal fan of the series since I first played Metal Gear Solid for the PlayStation, I'm asking that these major retailers join Nvidia in standing with Hideo Kojima to recognize Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain as his game.
I epically want to reach out to GameStop along with Gabe Newell and the leadership at Valve who have the biggest influence to please take a stand against this injustice by recognizing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain as a Hideo Kojima game.
