The MAB Mackay Rehabilitation Centre (MMRC) is forcing the blind students at the Philip E. Layton School, to move out of their Sherbrooke Street West building by July 1, and into the Mackay Centre for Deaf and Disabled building on Decarie. Although there is plenty of room for both schools to coexist, the MMRC is being unreasonable in its allocation of the rooms.   Just one room blocks an agreement between the negotiating parties, the Michael Reid Room.   Michael Reid was a former Mackay student, whose parents funded this room in his memory.  Use of this room would effectively close off the school from outside personnel as well as providing a space to put the library which is being changed into classrooms. We are being forced to box up both the Mackay Centre School library and the Braille library from PE Layton school and leave our most vulnerable students in an unsecured space.

The best solution would be to build a new school or purchase an existing one suited to the needs of both the student populations, but in the meantime a solution must be found to make the building on Decarie suitable before the July 1 move and before school year starts August 26, 2014.
