The Issue

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and I need to say this as plainly as I can: protect our women. Protect our mothers, our sisters, our aunties, our daughters. Too many people see signs that something is wrong and tell themselves it is not their place, or they leave that woman to figure it out on her own. But you never know what is really happening behind closed doors, and by the time the truth comes out, it can already be too late.

We have lost too many mothers, too many sisters, too many daughters, and too many aunties because support did not come fast enough. When someone is in a violent relationship, telling them to just leave is not enough if there is nowhere safe to go, no crisis support to call, and no real help waiting for them. These women are not just statistics. They are the people holding families together. These kids need their mothers. These mothers need their daughters. These children need their grandmothers and their aunties.

That is why I am calling for more public funding for domestic violence shelters, emergency housing, crisis hotlines, counseling, and survivor support services in our communities. Women who are in danger should not have to choose between staying in abuse and stepping into uncertainty with no support. If we say we care, then we need systems that actually help people before something tragic happens, not after.

Please sign this petition and help demand real resources for women facing domestic violence. Awareness matters, but awareness without action will not save lives. We need our leaders to invest in protection, safety, and support now.
