Four rural hospitals in Georgia — in Sandersville, Ocilla, Blue Ridge, and Montezuma — are now officially "at risk" of shutting down. If we let that happen, thousands of Georgians could lose access to emergency care, maternity wards, and even basic treatment — simply because of where they live.

This isn’t just a funding issue. It’s a warning sign. These hospitals serve communities already stretched thin, where Medicaid coverage is often the only way people can afford care. And now, after years of financial instability and health budget cuts, their doors could soon close for good.

In a state where over 2 million people rely on Medicaid, closing rural hospitals means longer travel times, higher death rates, and more communities left behind. It’s not just inconvenient — it’s deadly.

We’re calling on Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, state lawmakers, and federal health leaders to immediately step in and deliver emergency funding and long-term investment to keep these hospitals open. That includes expanding Medicaid, forgiving rural hospital debt, and ensuring that healthcare in small towns isn’t treated as disposable.

These hospitals don’t just treat patients — they anchor entire communities. When they close, jobs disappear. Families suffer. Lives are lost.
