The Issue

School safety should be the highest priority for our county. As a community, our children's wellbeing and security are paramount, and an effective way to ensure that is by providing a School Resource Officer (SRO) at Boonville Elementary School.

Currently, Boonville Elementary is one of only two schools in our district without the presence of an SRO, leaving our staff and 365 students more vulnerable. Our open campus, with numerous entry points, necessitates this security measure. At a time when the safety of educational institutions is a growing concern nationwide, our school must not remain unprotected.

Significantly, 67% of our families live outside of Boonville City Limits, indicating that our school serves the wider Yadkin County community. As such, the funding and allocation of an SRO should be prioritized by the Yadkin County Commissioners rather than relying on local city resources alone.

With over 70 dedicated staff members committed to educating the next generation, we must reciprocate their dedication with assurance of their safety and peace of mind. Providing an SRO is not just about safety; it’s about investing in a stable and secure learning environment that benefits the whole county.

We call upon the Yadkin County Commissioners to take action immediately and fully fund an SRO position for Boonville Elementary. Our students deserve to learn in a safe environment, and our staff should not have to worry about their security while focusing on teaching.

Please help us achieve a safe and secure learning environment for Boonville Elementary by signing this petition to urge the Yadkin County Commissioners to prioritize and fund this necessary role. Our collective voice can make the change our children deserve.
