Reform sputters to life at Fulton's Tax Break Authority
Yesterday, reform-minded new members of Fulton's scandal-plagued tax-break-granting authority began to assert themselves. (Links to 2 reports of the meeting below.) They're asking for new ways of doing business, where a crony clique doesn't make all decisions behind closed doors.
The key will be whether the board goes on rubber-stamping every developer tax break that walks in their door. Too soon to tell. No new deals have come their way since we broke the scandal on June 1. But getting the self-dealing under control would help. Board members will have less incentive to support tax breaks if they don't benefit from the fees that those breaks generate.
Still very important for Robb Pitts to name another reformer to the board. Get your friends to sign on to the petition. Strength in numbers!
