Since I last wrote I found out that Croydon Council decided to allocate the minimum of £76k of TFL funding towards cycle training for the residents of the London Borough of Croydon. This will result in a limited skeleton service where much of the year there will be no cycle training. TfL informed officers at Croydon Council that they could bid for top up funding through what is allocated for the Safer Corridors & Neighbourhoods programme, but under the watch of the executive Mayor and councillor Scott Roche Cabinet Member Streets & Environment, in December 2025, they agreed to go for the minimum and not make a bid for the allowed top up on behalf of Croydon residents. The Council has received the following funding from Transport for London (TfL) for cycle training over the following years:-
/ 10 = £100k
/ 11 = £110k
/ 12 = £120k
/ 13 = £150k
/ 14 = £175k
/ 19 = £135k
/21 = £130k
- 2025 • Cycle Training (£130,000)
/ 2027 = £76k
/ 2028 = £76k
Even cycle parking was awarded more at £97k. I have since heard of a Council officer, from a while back, in the Croydon Council Transport department change things around when a suitable timely bid was not made and she took it on board, because she cared about cycle training and then secured appropriate funding from TfL. So the same could be done right now. Continue to share the petition for Croydon residents to sign, share, speak to your councillors, MPs, contacts and your influencers, to put cycle training's importance, value and appropriate funding for a year round road safety service, at the top of politicians and council officers agenda.
