Please keep Julie and Tom at our local - The Old Farm Inn, Totternhoe

The Issue

We heard today that Julie and Tom are being forced out of their tenancy at The Old Farm Inn in Totternhoe because Fuller's are insisting on increasing their rent to a level they cannot afford.

It seems a totally unfair way to "reward" the tenants, who have made the pub arguably the most successful it's ever been; by forcing them out of their home and the community of which they've become an important part.  Yes, the pub may now be worth more, but this increase in value has only been brought about by Tom and Julie's hard work, investment and total dedication.

Since Julie and Tom came to The Old Farm Inn, it has become the best Pub and Restaurant in the vicinity. Previously, one never new when it would be open or closed - all pot luck to the general public. It has now become reliable in every sense - the beer is first class, the food is second to none and the service is always welcoming - a real example of what a pub owned by an excellent brewery should be.

Please sign this petition and ask Fred Turner, the Head of Fuller's Tenanted Division, to stand by the values in their Tenancy Code of Practice, where they claim to aim to:  "...Build a long and sustainable working partnership with our tenants and lessees to the benefit of both parties" and "be fair, honest, open, reasonable...in all our dealings with our tenants and lessees."

Julie and Tom have been there for less than 3 years and Fuller's are asking for a rent increase, which they say is anything but sustainable or reasonable. If Julie and Tom leave, who knows who will take over and what it will mean for the Pub, Restaurant and indeed the village of Totternhoe and its surrounding areas.
