Implement Tampon Dispensers in Frisco ISD Schools

Implement Tampon Dispensers in Frisco ISD Schools
The Issue
Frisco ISD schools currently do not offer menstrual products in bathrooms- paid or free of charge. Many Frisco students have expressed a desire for schools to stock pads and/or tampons in the school bathrooms for easier access and convenience. Currently, students have to report to the nurse's office in case they do not have immediate access to menstrual products. This puts students at an inconvenience and takes time away from their learning.
We propose that by implementing a free or even pay for use model in bathrooms, the issue of access can be made more equitable. Wall mounted boxes cost around $10-$20 per restroom and stocking menstrual products will cost roughly $5-$7 per menstruating student per year. However, by making this investment FISD can demonstrate that they are meeting the needs of students and ensuring that there are minimal disruptions to their learning. NYC Public Schools saw an attendance increase of 2.4% among girls after implementing freely accessible tampons and pads in its restrooms. Addressing normal bodily functions directly leads to students
feeling more comfortable and an increased focus on learning rather than hygiene emergencies.
Help us in showing support for this change to the FISD Board of Trustees and making menstrual products more widely available!
