Dear friends and neighbors,

Two days to go before city council meeting on 9/10.  It has been a long and windy journey.  We are here.  The decision will be made.  It is time for our voice to be finally heard.  We must all show up to the meeting!

City Hall is the best location for the Housing/Homeless Navigation Center.  This is self-evident.  The site is within walking distance to food banks/programs, social services, medical services, job assistance programs and job opportunities.  It offers superior transportation options.  It is also quiet at night and not on major traffic corridors.  The site has all the ingredients for success.  No other place in Fremont can offer the same support.  After all, City staff gave the City Hall site the best possible ranking according to the City Council’s own site selection criteria.  It met all 6 out of 6 criteria, the only site with a perfect score.

No construction bidding has actually taken place.  However, recently released construction cost estimates are basically the same for both the City Hall and Decoto sites.  Therefore, it makes sense to choose City Hall from a financial perspective also.

Unfortunately, the council meeting will be on the same night that the Fremont Unified School District conducts Back to School Night.  This overlap obviously makes it more difficult for parents to attend the city hall meeting.  However, we must all come and demonstrate our determination.  It is still a good idea to come after the Back to School Night is finished.

If we truly care about helping the homeless, we must insist on selecting city hall parking lot as the final location.  Please come to city hall meeting on 9/10 starting at 5:30 p.m.  Bring everyone!

Sincerely,
Hiu Ng
