Dear friends and neighbors,
It has been a remarkable journey since July 3rd when I started this petition. I deeply appreciate your support. Our effort has now reached the final stage. I would like to provide you with a progress update of events that have taken place and ask for your help for one more critical item.
Since July 3rd, with extraordinary effort from hundreds of volunteers:
• More than 13,000 of you have signed this petition. This is a record for all change.org petitions addressed to Fremont city government. Again, thank you.
• A team of North Fremont residents went door to door and collected 3,300 paper signatures over one weekend. At the July 16th city council meeting, the team collected another 700 signatures at city hall in one night.
• Also on July 16th, more than 2,000 Fremont residents showed up to express their concerns, another record for a city council meeting.
In the past 7 weeks, a designated small team has met with city council members. The meetings were friendly and constructive. I believe that there is a good probability that the proposed Housing Navigation Center would be located at city hall parking lot where homeless can access critical medical, social and job assistance services within walking distance.
City Council will still need to vote on the matter, and things can still change. Therefore, we must remain vigilant and continue our advocacy. The next 2 city council meetings are set for 9/10 and 9/17. City hall will officially announce the exact date for the actual voting meeting only 72 hours in advance. Consequently, I will only be able to give you a short notice.
It is critical that we all speak up at the city council meeting when the actual decision will be made. Please leave these two evenings open as much as possible and stay tuned.
Thank you and I hope to see all of you at the upcoming city council meeting.
Sincerely,
Hiu Ng
