Update #52 November 1, 2024
Vantara, a 3000-acre animal shelter in Jamnagar (Gujarat) has kindly agreed to provide life long care to Shankar (Delhi Zoo) and Rambo (Mysore zoo) if the High-Powered Committee (HPC) affirmed by the Supreme Court directs that the two elephants be transferred to their facility.
Vantara already has 6 African elephants in their care. These elephants were retired from a circus in Europe. As a result Shankar and Rambo, if rehabilitated at Vantara, can have hope of some companionship. In addition Vantara has extensive forest land, state-of-the-art medical facilities and a well trained veterinary team to support the two elephants (especially during the musth period where male elephants tend to turn aggressive).
We at Youth for Animals, sincerely hope that the High-Powered Committee finds merit in our petition that we recently sent to them and they take a favorable view on the proposal given by Vantara for rehabilitation of Shankar and Rambo.
