Kim Marie Edwards, who was an elementary school teacher and worked hard to feed the homeless and others that didn’t have enough food, suffered a brain injury in 2004 while trying to give birth to her only child due to a hospital mistake. We were told by our mother’s personal injury attorney’s friend, who is a probate attorney that it was best to place her under guardianship. Every since 2009, after she got her lawsuit settlement, and while in probate court over 200,000 dollars came up missing from her trust, which is managed by a lawyer that used unethical and illegal ways to take over the trust. Kim’s money has been taken out of her social security check by her former guardian and she, the former guardian, refuses to state where it’s located, the new guardian keeps holding her social security checks when she is supposed to give them to her for her benefits, they tell her she has no right to an attorney, she is ignored when she tells them she doesn’t want a guardian, the judge allowed the former guardian to get away with malfeasance and perjury. Even though the alternative to guardianship, family support, has been in place for almost 18 years, and she is capable of making informed decisions with support decision making assistance, the court still keeps her under guardianship and allows all court officers to take her money. The trustee won’t let her or any of her family see proof of what he is doing with her money.  Kim made it clear that she didn’t want a guardian more than once, the court completely disregards her, the law of family first and alternatives to guardianship, and punish advocates if the speak out against the atrocities that accompanies guardianship. They are doing this to keep control of her and her money because she won a large settlement in 2009.

Kim is currently at Wayne County Probate Court in Michigan 

My sister and people like her get treated worst then criminals and have are rights violated because they are either disabled, elderly, or they are not but someone lied on them to get them in the system.

Kim needs to be freed so she can live her best life as independently and joyfully as possible and ever one in her situation needs to be free to do the same. 

If she and others like her are not freed, they are at risk of having all their  property and money taken away, being isolated from family and friends, their condition worsening because they are in an uncaring environment and unable to see or talk to loved ones, at risk of continued exploitation and abuse that judges, lawyers and public guardians force upon them. 

Anybody that has disabilities that’s elderly or may have disabilities in the future are at risk.

I request that you sign this petition to let people like her former guardian, guardian, judge, trustee and lawyers that it’s not ok to abuse their power and it’s certainly not ok to treat other human beings like this because they are elderly, and/or have a disability, and so Kim and people like her can be freed from guardianship. #freekimmarieedwardsfromguardianship
