Freedom of Speech for The Disability Community get Gov. Hochul to discuss on her platform
The Issue
Important Update: As of 6/5/2026 The Communication Bill of Rights for Individuals with Disabilities (S7792b) never made it out of the Disability Committee which was headed up by NY Senator Patricia Fahy. Which means this entire community still lacks the legal right to use their preferred communication method. This civil right issue is far from over and our advocacy continues as the political process resets this coming January. Our next call to action is clear: We need your help in contacting New York Governor Kathy Hochul. Let’s work together to ensure this critical civil rights issue is a priority on her upcoming campaign platform.
1. Please call and leave a message for Governor Hochul to discuss the Communication Bill of Rights for Individuals with Disabilities (bill S7792b/A7363c) on her upcoming campaign platform. Her number is 518-474- 8390.
2. By signing this petition (no need to donate) Governor Hochul will understand the importance of including this civil rights issue on her campaign platform.
Personal Note: I am reaching out to highlight a crucial step needed in improving the lives of individuals with disabilities across New York State. This is personal to me and being just a dad with a son who is a non-speaking autistic individual, I believe every individual should have the autonomy to select their preferred method of communication.
Communication is fundamental to every facet of human interaction and essential for accessing services that assure full participation in society. Individuals with disabilities must have the freedom to choose the method of communication that best suits their needs, be it spoken, written, signed, or via assistive technology. This is not just about rights; it’s about respect for diversity and the dignity of choice.
The bill has been crafted to address these needs, ensuring that all individuals are given the power to communicate in ways that are most effective for them. By adopting this bill, we are taking a step toward a more inclusive society, ensuring that everyone has equal opportunity to participate in community life, healthcare, education, and employment.
Together, we can help ensure that individuals with disabilities have the communication rights they deserve. Sign this petition to support a future where everyone’s voice can be heard and respected. And when that happens this world becomes a better place.
THANK YOU!
