Il Presidente della Egyptian Commission for Rights and Freedom (ECRF) Ahmed Abdallah è in carcere dal 25 aprile scorso con l'accusa di aver cospirato contro il Presidente egiziano Al-Sisi e di voler rovesciare le istituzioni del Paese.

Ahmed Abdallah è in realtà un avvocato difensore dei diritti umani e negli ultimi mesi era diventato il rappresentante legale al Cairo dei familiari di Giulio Regeni, che fin da subito ne hanno chiesto a gran voce la liberazione.

Lo scorso 5 giugno il suo fermo è stato nuovamente prolungato di altri 45 giorni, senza che alcuna prova concreta sia stata finora prodotta contro di lui per giustificarne l'arresto. Per questo il 24 giugno Ahmed ha iniziato uno sciopero della fame ad oltranza.

Chiediamo quindi alla dott.ssa Federica Mogherini, nel suo ruolo di Alto Rappresentante dell'Unione Europea per gli Affari Esteri e la Sicurezza, di intercedere affinché Ahmed venga liberato immediatamente e vengano denunciate le sue terribili condizioni di detenzione.

The President of Egyptian Commision for Rights and Freedom (ECRF) Mr. Ahmed Abdallah has been arrested on April 25th with accusation of conspiracy against egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi and to be part of a "illegal" organization.

Mr. Ahmed Abdallah is really a human rights' lawyer and on these last months he became the law consultant of Giulio Regeni's family - that immediately asked his liberation.

Last June 5th, the detention of Mr Abdallah has been extended another time of 45 days, without any kind of proof against him. For this reason, on June 24th Mr Abdallah started an hunger strike on jail.

We would then ask to Mrs Federica Mogherini, as high representative of the union for foreign affairs and security policy, who several times confirmed her solidarity and those of all EU institutions with Giulio Regeni's family, to intercede for Mr Abdallah's liberation and claim his rights to work for all detained people in Egypt.
