"Ocklawahaman" Paul Nosca OPINION:
I am beginning to think that we need an updated computerized, DOCUMENTED, freely-available, SEARCHABLE-BY-NAME listing of Ocklawaha River restoration supporters again -- who also are aware of the reasons that the necessary permitting required for the restoration process to begin has been held in abeyance by SJRWMD at the request of FDEP since late 1999.
That reason, of course, was that State of Florida environmental scientists (SJRWMD & FDEP) had to complete their studies of the possible TMDL increase to the lower St. Johns River that would occur after the breaching of Rodman (Kirkpatrick) Dam. Any potential increased nutrient pollution to the St. Johns River has to be avoided or mitigated in some fashion.
The only SEARCHABLE-BY-NAME digital roster of those who support Ocklawaha River restoration -- that I am aware of -- is available to me (as the Administrator) from Change dot org for FREE distribution to governmental entities & others as a result of the "FREE THE OCKLAWAHA RIVER BY THE BREACHING OF RODMAN DAM" online SIGN-FOR-FREE-$$$ petition that I created back on June 24, 2016 & offered to the general public for new signatures until December 24, 2020. The last register of worldwide publicly visible NAMES that I downloaded from Change dot org was back on December 24, 2020 & it contained 4,087 NAMES of Ocklawaha River restoration supporters.
So accordingly I am reopening the "FREE THE OCKLAWAHA RIVER BY THE BREACHING OF RODMAN DAM" online SIGN-FOR-FREE-$$$ petition to new signatures again. Most of you probably have already signed this petition previously -- you can't sign your name to it more than once -- but there seem to be more folks now in favor of the notion of restoring to free-flowing-again the 56-mile-length Silver-Ocklawaha River that may want to publicly place their name proudly among the others as supporters of FREE THE OCKLAWAHA RIVER BY THE BREACHING OF RODMAN DAM. And it is nice to be able to search a roster & actually see your name, location, & date signed in / on it.
As far as I know the "not-for-profit" environmental groups do not offer any FOR-FREE-$$$ computerized searchable-by-individual-name listings that interested folks can obtain. Therefore the "FREE THE OCKLAWAHA RIVER BY THE BREACHING OF RODMAN DAM" online SIGN-FOR-FREE-$$$ petition is open for new signatures again. I will run the numbers every so often & furnish a report with listing file for you to download if you so desire.
