"Ocklawahaman" Paul Nosca says, "From the rivers that flow from our sister states of Alabama and Georgia to the rivers that originate in our own Green Swamp, REAL experience in the Florida outdoors matters. Sometimes I put on my old jungle boots and go for the gusto!"
I sincerely want to see -- in my own lifetime -- a restored to free-and-swift-flowing-again 56-mile length Ocklawaha-Silver River system because it would be beneficial to Florida's natural ecology. Fifty-mile or longer free-flowing rivers connected to the sea are extremely rare in this state. There are only about ten of them and almost all of those ten originate in our sister states of Alabama and Georgia. Some Florida-native migratory fish species require freshwater streams of such long length -- unobstructed by dams -- which empty into saltwater estuary areas to complete their "By-God" natural life processes. STRIPED BASS and STURGEON are the two most important of these migratory fish and they are classed as anadromous species along most of the Atlantic and Gulf seaboard states.
I am not a community activist or a fund raiser. I have never viewed the Ocklawaha River restoration issue as some sort of a revenue-producing source. I do not lead paddling tours nor am I any kind of a Captain (I never reached that pay grade in the US Army). I usually go alone. Where I seek to go -- the wildest remaining wilderness areas of several Florida rivers -- those along with me would surely risk injury or worse!
I am, however, a skilled collector and analyzer of official governmental and other scientific literature which I honestly report on and offer opinion about to any and all interested parties FOR FREE $$$. But quite uniquely from most all of the other Ocklawaha River-restoration advocates, much of my best work is done from a canoe or on foot while I am actually in the outdoors of Florida. Real experience in the Florida outdoors matters.
I am "Ocklawahaman" Paul Nosca -- a retired State of Florida government administrator (Tallahassee) and a US Army veteran -- and I approve of this message!
