We, the undersigned, urge Governor Ron DeSantis and the Florida State Courts System to execute justice faithfully and charge the 28-year-old truck driver, Harjinder Singh, the individual that caused a fatal U-turn crash on Florida’s Turnpike in South Florida. This was an act indifference on his part. Accountability matters, the severity of the charges are wholly justified and should be carried forward, any act of leniency or clemency granted would be miscarriage of justice.
Key Considerations & Precedent:
Criminal intent or history: The incident was a catastrophe, an act of indifference to human life, as well as indifference to state and federal law.
The driver had crossed the US border illegally, having broken several state and federal laws.
Relevant precedent- US & Florida law.
Petition Requests -
1. Impose the fullest sentence possible, this was NOT an accident, it was an act of indifference and disregard for US and Florida law. The punishment should be to the fullest extent capable under the law — ensuring justice is carried for the families of those killed.
2. Deny ANY parole eligibility.
3. Do NOT consider alternative sentencing measures — collective nonsense such as "restorative justice, counseling, or community service" — fail to ensure those responsible are held accountable. Three people are dead because of failures at multiple levels to hold anyone accountable.
Conclusion:
In granting any form of leniency or clemency, you would affirm that the justice system is indeed broken, that it is vulnerable to the "power of community advocacy" and not based on long held and established US Judiciary history, US Law or the US Constitution. We believe this case is not just about one individual—it speaks to the broader issue of non-citizens granted special status and treatment over US citizens.
