In the past fortnight, two promises from the Foreign Office to arrange conversations with Lindsay and Craig have failed to materialize. Whilst the family were waiting on tenterhooks for a phone call yesterday, we have now been told that Lindsay and Craig were actually being moved. They have reportedly been moved to a jail close to Tehran, but it would appear that the Foreign Office still don’t have visibility and are not in a position to confirm their exact location, safety, well-being or if they are still together.

International negotiations are taking place this week in Istanbul with Iranian officials. The family have asked the UK government to place Lindsay and Craig’s case on the agenda, but so far there has been no acknowledgment of their request let alone confirmation that Lindsay and Craig’s plight will be prioritized.

The family are now escalating their demands to the UK government to start to act with urgency, ensure that Lindsay and Craig’s basic human rights start to be met and focus on bringing them home. We would therefore ask that you engage meaningfully with your own UK MP if you are UK based.

Please can you ask them to raise the following issues with relevant ministers:

1. Immediate public commitment from David Lammy and Sir Keir Starmer that the British government will step up and start to ensure their human rights are respected and that there will be no stone left unturned until they are returned home.
2. The UK government must take urgent action to ensure their basic human rights start to be properly respected, prioritising urgent and regular phone calls to the family, urgent and regular consular visits as well as medical and legal support.
3. Confirmation from the UK government that the couple’s release will be raised in all ongoing and future discussions with Iran focused on an urgent resolution to this situation by returning them home.
