Hi All, (Last Edited 21-9-2023 4pm Brisbane Time) I hope this Update reaches you and you are all OK. Australian parliamentarians from the Bring Assange Home Parliamentary Group have arrived in Washington DC. They will be having face to face meetings with their USA Government counterparts to free Julian Assange. Featured in this Democracy Now video is Peter Whish-Wilson Senator for Tasmania (Greens) Australian Government.
If interested and as a bit of background for all of you, I have added some background below, because Peter is questioned about where all this began.
It was Senator Peter Whish–Wilson and with the help of his great office support staff (FB) that first tabled this petition in the Australian Senate on behalf of all of us. In the following days Peter Whish Wilson Sen. co-founded and helped formally establish the Bring Assange Home Parliamentary Group (it was 11 at commencement and now is 70 members). It was this large petition that validated the inauguration of the Bring Assange Home Parliamentary Group at the time this petition was around 200,000 strong ~Nov. 2019.
On a related point but more recently: I recall hearing John Shipton (Julian Assange’s father at Brisbane State Library 2023), stating that now every country in South America has a Free Julian Assange Parliamentary Group that were modelled on the Australian Parliament’s Bring Assange Home Parliamentary Group. Further John Shipton did also mention, as I recall that every western European country has a Free Julian Assange Parliamentary Group as well. I recall that the largest one in the world is in the Greek Parliament with around 100 currently sitting parliamentarians that are members. What an awesome development.
In saying that I wish this case never even happened and honestly as far as I am concerned, the fact that this case has gone on for so, so long just doesn’t look good at all. In my opinion, with Julian Assange still in this situation can ony mean we are all on a road to a Totalitarian dictatorship. Why?
I feel it is important for this petition to validate its own sequence of diligent application in a democratic political system. Around the democratic world petitions are considered in any democracy as one of the only ways, if not then the ONLY way to address citizenry grievances in respective parliaments.
I can only speak specifically about the situation in Australia. I feel Australia is a good benchmark as it has been modelled throughout the world, in so far as the establishment of all the individual nations with now a Free Julian Assange Parliamentary Group in their respective parliaments. Did you know in Australia that a petition is the ONLY way a citizen can present their grievances to their democratically elected governments. So to be clear a petition is the ONLY way.
If it is done right and if the cause is supported by the overwhelming public at large then a petition will always win in a democracy.
As far as I can determine nobody can block a petition happening and in the case of the USA. Nobody can block the passage of a petition once it is considered of significance in size. Today in Western democracies parliamentary complying petitions are considered significant once they reach 100,000 signatures. Obviously when I say ”considered significant” I am being subjective, but it must resonate with political constituents of sitting politicians. This petition although only having 260,000 Australians Citizens as signatories, the topic of freedom for Julian Assange does resonate with over 80% of adult Australians. That is not an exaggeration. Any large adult sample polling returns these results across Australia.
I do want to thank everyone so far that has signed on to this petition over 780,000 made up of 260,000 Australian Citizens, Over 200,000 USA Citizens, over 120,000 British Citizens and the rest is from nearly every nation on Earth.
Remember wars take years but spill blood, slaughter and destroy natural ecosystems. Petitions may appear to be toothless, but over time they are peaceful and if the cause is right + absolutely high public citizenry interest in “the cause” of the petition, then in a democracy the “determined” petition will never lose.
The Question on Everyone’s lips now is. Are we living under a Totalitarian dictatorship modelled on Hitler’s Nazi’s or are we going to move forward in Democratic disorder that is the foundation of democracy.
Democracy may be slow and clumsy, but the flow is always towards the public interest. Totalitarian regimes on the other hand may be efficient in administration through a corporate model, but unfortunately history proves that in a road to a Totalitarian Dictatorship, the first step is always the extermination of publishers and journalists that report in the public interest. Alternative publishers/investigative journalists are always silenced by threats, jailing, torture, blackmail and outright murdered. This is the “necessary” first step in a program of Totalitarian propaganda and counter intelligence that is a foundation of a Totalitarian Dictatorship. The result over the medium to long term after the publishers are effectively silenced is always war. History proves it and History is repeating itself in this case.
The road to war, is a road that will lead to children, friends and relatives all end up getting slaughtered following a load BS / false flag / propaganda to brainwash the public to start another war. Another war will be for some future despot FW to steal wealth and profit. History Proves This.
Free Julian Assange and Stop the Extradition case against him.
This Case Is a Line in the Sand.
As Julian says “If wars can be started with lies, the peace can be started with the truth".
Cheers
Phillip
