The Issue

Juan Jose Oquendo-Calderon has been detained in Coles County Jail since May 2025 — without bond — despite the protections provided under Illinois' Pretrial Fairness Act, which ended cash bail and created a higher standard for holding individuals before trial.

Juan has not been convicted of any crime. He is presumed innocent and deserves due process. But his arrest and continued detention raise serious concerns:

Key eyewitnesses — including the person who called 911 — were never allowed to give their statements.

The investigation ignored critical facts, and the legal threshold for pretrial detention has not been met.

Under the law, unless someone is proven to pose a specific threat or a flight risk, they should not be held before trial.

We’re calling on Judge O'Brien and the Coles County Court to do what is right:

✅ Honor the law.

✅ Review all evidence.

✅ Release Juan Jose Oquendo-Calderon while he awaits trial.

This case is about more than one man — it's about how justice works for all of us. Join us in demanding fairness and

 accountability.
