"Like a Horror Movie" But Real: 29-Year-Old German Tattoo Artist Fights for Her Release from ICE

Jessica Brösche is fighting to be freed from a for-profit detention center in California, U.S.A., where she's being held indefinitely by ICE (U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement).

Brösche, who was traveling with her American best friend, was taken into custody on 25 January 2025. According to reporting from The Guardian's Maria Dunbar:

"U.S. Customs and Border Protection accused Brösche of planning to violate the terms of the visa waiver program by intending to work as a tattoo artist during her time in Los Angeles.... She was [then] forced to spend eight days in solitary confinement...." 

"She says it was like a horror movie," Jessica's American best friend told The Guardain, "[People] were screaming in all different rooms. [She] said she went so insane that she started punching the walls....”
