Free Feminine Hygiene Products In The Girls Bathroom at William Aberhart High School
The Issue
Being a student at William Aberhart High School, I've faced the challenge of not having access to feminine hygiene products when I needed them the most. There are no feminine hygiene products available in any of the girls' bathrooms, and this lack of access can be incredibly stressful and inconvenient for students like me. As a feminist, I strongly believe in supporting the women and girls in our school, ensuring everyone has access to the essentials for their well-being.
Feminine hygiene products are not luxury items; they are necessities. The inability to access these essential products can impact a student's health, dignity, and concentration in class. No student should have to worry about where or how they will obtain the hygiene products they need during the school day.
Statistics show that 1 in 5 girls in Canada have either left school early or missed school entirely because they did not have access to period products (Plan International Canada). This is not just a personal inconvenience; it's an educational barrier that affects students' learning experiences. Providing free hygiene products can alleviate this barrier, supporting students’ rights to education without unnecessary interruptions or stress.
Several schools across the world have already taken the initiative to provide free feminine hygiene products to their students, recognizing the impact and importance of accessible period care. It is time for William Aberhart High School to follow in their footsteps and support its students by ensuring products are available in all girls' bathrooms.
I urge William Aberhart High School administration to prioritize this matter and work towards a solution that supports students' health and well-being. By providing free feminine hygiene products, we can take a significant step in supporting gender equality and empowerment for all our students.
Sign this petition to help make feminine hygiene products accessible to every student who needs them. Let's make a change together and support the girls and young women at William Aberhart High School.
