The Issue

In 2009, my best friend embarked on a perilous journey from Eritrea, seeking a better future. Tragically, he lost his life in the vastness of the Sinai desert or perhaps beneath the waves of the Mediterranean Sea. The uncertainty of his fate, a devastating wound that never heals, stays with me emotionally each day.

This story is not unique; it echoes the desperate cries of countless Eritrean refugees yearning for freedom and safety. Currently, many Eritreans find themselves trapped in Libya, subjected to inhumane conditions and vulnerable to monstrous human trafficking networks. These individuals, seeking a flicker of hope, become ensnared in a cycle of exploitation and violence.

Human trafficking is a modern-day atrocity that preys on the vulnerable and exploits their dreams. It's a billion-dollar industry that strips people of their dignity and freedom. It's time we stand up and put an end to this brutality. By releasing Eritrean refugees from their dire situation in Libya, we can strike a critical blow against these trafficking rings, shielding them from further harm and granting them a path to safety and potential resettlement.

Libyan authorities, along with international bodies like the United Nations, have the power and responsibility to enforce protections for refugees and combat trafficking directly. But they need encouragement and support from the global community. We urge these entities to prioritize the processing and safe transfer of Eritrean refugees to countries capable of offering sanctuary and a fresh start.

Sign this petition if you believe in justice, if you believe every human deserves the right to live free from fear and violence. Stand with us in advocating for the immediate liberation of Eritrean refugees in Libya. Let our collective voice become the beacon of hope these individuals desperately need. Help us turn this painful memory into a powerful catalyst for change. Sign today to demand action and create a safer world for all.
