Boris Kagarlitsky's appeal against the five-year sentenced imposed upon him on February 24 as a result of the prosecution's successful appeal against this original penalty of a $US6550 fine as "too lenient" will be heard on June 5.

Kagarlitsky was charged on July 25 last year with "justifying terrorism" for some ironical remarks he made about the Ukrainian Navy's July 17 attack on the bridge connecting Crimea to Russia.

The court hearing the appeal is the Judicial Collegium for Military Personnel of the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation, based in Moscow.

As the day of his appeal approaches supporters of freedom for Boris Kagarlitsky are redoubling their efforts on his behalf.

A major example of solidarity with the jailed socialist and anti-war activist came from the leaders of France Unbowed (pictured), including its historical leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon (second right).

The Boris Kagarlitsky International Solidarity Campaign calls on all supporters of freedom for Kagarlitsky to follow their example and rebouble efforts to win his release. 

On June 1, the Campaign will be promoting a social media storm under the hashtag #freeboris!
